Situated in the west of the middle zone of Navarre, this town is in the centre of the district that give it its name. It has 1,539 hectares -15.39 km2- and it is at a distance of just 44 km from Pamplona. The city is located on a big meander formed by the river Ega which flows through the surrounding mountains-Montejurra, Peñaguda, Cruz de los Castillos, Santa Bárbara and Belastegui-.
It borders Ayegui on the west, Allin on the north-west, Yerri on the north-east, Villatuerta on the east and Aberin on the south.
Estella-Lizarra is surrounded by beautiful landscapes as Urbasa, Andia, Lokiz mountain ranges as well as great monuments, for example the monasteries of Iranzu or Iratxe, etc.
About climatology, it is mediterranean with an average temperature of 13ºC per year and an average rainfall of 570 mm per year. In winter the frosts are very usual.
The Saint James Way leave an important mark to the city. Leaving a treasure formed by a big artistic heritage on buildings as well as sculptures, especially with a religious character, predominating the Romanic and Gothic styles.
It has good communications with the close capital cities , the best example is the Camino’s highway (A-12) witch links Estella-Lizarra with Pamplona and Logroño.
